Special Notes From
Miss Shayna: SEPTEMBER....BACK TO CLASS!!
September is here, and most children are both excited and nervous about starting school. Whether it is your child's first experience in preschool or he/she is a returning student, establishing a goodbye routine is often helpful. Routines become something a child can count on in the midst of change and uncertainty. This consistency helps the child feel safe and comfortable in a new environment. Try this simple goodbye routine: Help children hang up their bag, ask them to show you one thing in the classroom, give a big hug and remind them you will be there after school. A quick goodbye is often easiest for the child. These simple routines will help both you and your child start the day with ease. Showing that you are confident about the first day of school will help your child feel confident.
What is the value of play? It is often said that play is children's work. Through play, children are developing a foundation which promotes life skills and enhances their academic future.
-Children will develop social skills and learn how to share, take turns and role-play.
-Children will develop communication skills such as learning to express feelings, using the appropriate words and inviting friends to play.
-While playing, children will also learn to develop problem-solving skills that allow them to find solutions and resolve conflicts.
-Both play and learning require the use of step-by-step processes. Allowing children to explore these processes during play will transfer to the learning process.
Play is important business. Encourage your child to enjoy their play, and support them by creating opportunites for this important work. Use this as an opportunity to spend some time with your child. What a great way to experience the world through your child's eyes!
